Each year, thousands of people decide to pre-plan and pre-pay for their funeral services. These plans are designed to be flexible and to accommodate the many changes that often occur in people’s lives.
Pre-planning can save your family and friends from having to make many difficult decisions during a very difficult time. Planning ahead also gives you a say in your own arrangements, assessing and comparing your options may help reduce or eliminate the financial burden on your family.
It’s important to discuss your final wishes with your family members, friends or your estate trustee as the person named in your Will to handle your affairs can change your plans at the time of your death.
Pre-Arrange vs Pre-Pay
You can pre-plan your final arrangements without pre-paying. By pre-arranging you can make your wishes known and we can gather and record all the necessary information from you now that will assist your family when the time comes.
By pre-paying for your funeral services, you reduce the stress and financial impact on your family. Pre-payment also protects you and your family from inflation and the growth is non-taxable. In Ontario, if your funeral costs less than the amount you have put aside, those funds will be refunded back to your estate.
Should you choose to pre-plan AND pre-pay, you will be asked to sign a contract.

Pre-Payment Options
You can coordinate a payment plan that best fits your budget. The options include a one-time, single payment to pay for the services in full, monthly bank account/credit card withdrawals or lump sum payments until the balance is fully paid.
How are My Pre-Paid Funds Protected?
All funds deposited for a prepaid funeral in Ontario are held in trust with a company such as Guaranteed Funeral Deposits or an insurance company like GFD. These funds remain your property until death occurs, and it is only at this point that the funds are used to pay for the funeral services. Any excess funds are returned to the estate after the services are provided.
Can My Funds Be Transferred To Another Funeral Home?
We are often asked about transferring pre-arranged/pre-paid funeral services from other funeral homes to our family-owned business. Pre-arranged and pre-paid funerals are simple and easy to transfer from one place to another.
